Meta begins testing its first AI training chip to challenge Nvidia

The new chip is expected to improve the efficiency and speed of AI model training. This development could eventually lessen Facebook's dependence on hardware from companies like Nvidia. The chip will likely be used in Facebook's data centers to help train the vast AI models it uses to understand and moderate content. It could also be used in Facebook's other AI-intensive applications such as virtual and augmented reality. The development of this chip marks a significant step in Facebook's journey towards self-reliance in technology infrastructure.
